A Time for Choosing
Offered by David Apollo

I enjoy finding quotations from time to time, a daily version of which can be found here. One striking observable FACT that runs through many of the quotations I collect is that many of the stereotypical behaviors or observations being commented on throughout the last couple of thousand years have not changed very much!

In biology, when one sees features that remain constant over multiple generations, one can be fairly sure that there is a structural reason for it. Often then, a genetic reason for it. When features are constant for hundreds of generations, a heritable explanation is beyond doubt. Even if the precise understanding of the explanation for it remains a mystery.

So, apparently, are the challenges to our liberties. And, so apparently are the articulated rationales for defending or seizing back liberties. Even the examples of liberties being breached, and the rhetoric excusing the breach have a familiar ring.

As indicated in earlier posts, ConserveLiberty has no interest in advocating the outcomes of current political contests, nor does it have any interest in advocating the deserved popularity of any political party. Click here for a brief explanation of our non-advocation policy And so, it is with some comfort that we highlight the speech above given in support of Liberty by a dead politician - a speech given exactly 50 years ago today. He's not running for office. And the party he represented at the time has by their actions and history since then abandoned his philosophy. Thus, running his speech cannot be construed to advocate for a current party running in a current race.

But listen to the speech! One would think that Ronald Reagan was speaking to us today, about the very issues that confront us today, using examples taken from our political and social discourse today.

That my friends makes this a timeless speech, and one worth listening to if you have the time and interest.

Choose Liberty. Conserve Liberty.
