Author's Note
This is version #1.0 of The Resilience Personality Spectrum Tapestry.
Discussing and comprehending Resilience in a meaningful way comes with its challenges.
Resilience, like Humor, penetrates all Humanity, and indeed is imbedded throughout All That Is (which has existed in some form forever?) And yet, Resilience is subtly different in one respect:
-
"Resilience is usually "Unspoken", and "Seen" once recognized. Humor is often "Spoken", and "Understood" once recognized."
-
Some of the best Humor is "Unspoken" ... Resilient Humor!
ConserveLiberty
suggests that Resilience is NOT invoked by a particular circumstance or required behavior. Rather, the Resilient
phenotype
is Always On. One may refine how they execute "resilience." They may become more effective at achieving whatever they are trying to achieve while being tenacious, etc. → However, Resilience is Always On, if it is ever On. ←
One who is not "resilient" does not learn to be resilient. Ever. They either are or they are not. What may vary is their default
"dial setting"
determining how deeply they are drawn to Resilient behavior. Simple.
To get the most out of this chapter, keep a few things in mind:
-
Resilience is "Unspoken," whether it is "Seen" or not.
-
Much offered in this chapter will be spoken. Most will remain Unspoken. The Unspoken will be making a relevant point. Figure that one out!
-
Those that skim this chapter will skim the Spoken, but very little of the actual Unspoken. Real asymmetry. Engage this chapter as you are built to. Get what you can get.
-
While Resilience is persistent and never quits, it does turn out that I had to stop writing this chapter. Think about that. Most of what is Relevant was left Unspoken. What is Spoken is but The Tip of the Iceberg.

Preface
When it comes to Resilience, it is all about location, location, and location. Resilience can be found:
-
just after the moment of The Big Bang (the beginning from which all "everywhere" expands) and from all moments and locations thereafter,
-
At the locations, experiences, and relationships that the living have been habituated to (home,)
-
Where any people are (both the Cognitive Me and the Relationship Me,)
-
Whenever and wherever something comes next.
-
Resilience is wherever All That Is is.
We start each Personality Spectrum Filter discussion by reminding the reader
several things about the filters, ensembles, and tapestries. ← Click there.
By no means is it to be implied that the Resilience Tapestry is the result of a single gene. Rather, several genes, many expressed differently for each individual, work together to determine an individual's Resilience Tapestry phenotype.
In fact, with regard to the Resilience Personality Spectrum Tapestry it is probably a bit more clarifying to reiterate the statements above in a more declarative manner:
There is no single gene (whose expression or structure is variable and can be altered,) or for that matter a single event, that is causative of "tenacity, the drive to move forward, persistence, survival". The Resilience Tapestry is a system. It's mechanism of action (MOA) cannot be understood as the result of a single genetic variation, environmental influence, or random fluctuation resulting in a recognizable motivational or behavioral impact.
The explanation for why we are driven to survive, despite whatever difficulties and challenges and hardships we may encounter as long as we have any ability at all to keep going lies within the system
ConserveLiberty
refers to as the Resilience Tapestry.
If you can't beat 'em, well then you're just
not trying hard enough, slacker. - Maxine
The impact of the Resilience Personality Spectrum Tapestry, depending on how effective its "setting" is, will be seen as enabling a spectrum of behaviors leading to persistence, moving forward, challenge conquering, tenacity. The Resilient do not give up until they expire. The Resilient may "win", they may "finish", they may "fail", they may "expire." What the Resilient do not do is choose to cease whatever they are drawn to doing.
The Resilience Tapestry manifests itself
phenotypically as "traits". The Tapestry itself made up of an ensemble of influential Ensembles, Filters, Genes, and components. All giving rise to "traits."
ConserveLiberty
will elaborate within this chapter those aspects of Resilience that it believes may be validatable through credible experimental design and careful, scientifically skeptical observation (either now or in the future). However, it is also the case that many other
perspectives on Resilience
have been written, and focus on similar attributes describing the behavior.
While not all of these approaches are validatable per se, they are a source of insight. And someday these insights may serve to influence the development of additional creative approaches to Resilience that actually may be verifiable as "highly likely to be factual."
For the purposes of writing and making sense of this chapter,
ConserveLiberty
has found it necessary to use certain terms in a more consistently defined way than may be understood generally. To make sure we are all on the same page, a few of those terms are called out.
ConserveLiberty:
-
defines
Resilience
← here
-
defines
The Me
← here.
-
Some of the various meanings and uses of Me are listed
here,
including subtle distinctions implied by Mes, We, Old and New Me, Relationship Me, etc.)
-
defines
MEMORY.
← here.
When manifested within the domain of cognition:
-
Memory is involved. Memory supports "The Me" function. For "The Cognitive Me," a working memory foundation is primary.
-
All aspects of a working "Cognitive Me" are Resilient. Instinctually. Persistence is instinctual for all aspects of "The Cognitive Me."
The path to uncovering the various genes, functions, filters, ensembles, and tapestries that together either generate the manifestation of Resilience or influence it will be exceptionally complex.
"Resilience is defined within the
ConserveLiberty
resource as something that ... persists. Within the realm of cognitive "instinct" the resilient come up with a way to survive ... if they can. Resilient persistence has no expiration date. The resilient never consider whether or not their persistence has an expiration date today.
The question is, 'Does Resilience have a Beginning?'
